Clutch Bag Manufacturer: Sourcing Wholesale Clutches and Evening Clutches from China
Published: 2026-08-30 | 10 min read
A clutch is the highest-margin, most design-led item in a women's bag range - and the hardest to get right at factory level because the hardware, frame, and closure decide whether it feels premium or cheap. For importers, choosing the right clutch bag manufacturer is the difference between a best-seller and dead stock. This guide covers how a clutch factory works, what to specify, MOQ and pricing, and how to order with confidence.
What Makes a Clutch Hard to Manufacture
Unlike a tote, a clutch has no forgiving structure - the frame, kiss-lock, or magnetic closure is the hero. A weak hinge or misaligned frame reads as defective on the shelf. A specialist clutch bag supplier invests in frame tooling and closure testing, which a general bag trader usually does not. Start with our clutch bag buyers guide to learn the silhouettes.
Materials and Closure Types
- Hard-frame clutches. Metal or resin frames with a kiss-lock or clasp; the frame must be jig-tested for alignment.
- Soft clutches. Vegan leather or satin with a magnetic or zip closure; compare in vegan leather bags manufacturer.
- Evening clutches. Beaded, crystal, or metallic finishes for weddings and parties.
- Chain straps. A detachable chain turns a clutch into a shoulder bag - a strong retail upsell.
MOQ and Pricing
| Type | FOB Cost (China) | Retail Range |
|---|---|---|
| Soft vegan-leather clutch | $4-10 | $28-75 |
| Hard-frame kiss-lock | $6-14 | $40-110 |
| Beaded evening clutch | $8-20 | $55-160 |
MOQ typically runs 100-300 pieces per style for soft clutches and 200-500 for hard-frame (frame tooling). See MOQ explained.
Quality Control Points
- Frame alignment. The closure must sit flush with no gap when shut.
- Hinge fatigue. Open-close 50 cycles; the frame must not loosen.
- Beading security. Pull-test a few beads; loose beading is the #1 return reason.
- Lining finish. No raw edges inside a premium clutch.
Our factory QC process covers these checks at AQL 2.5.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MOQ for a clutch bag manufacturer?
Soft clutches usually start at 100-300 pieces per style; hard-frame clutches run 200-500 because the frame needs dedicated tooling.
How much do wholesale clutches cost?
Soft vegan-leather clutches run $4-10 FOB, hard-frame kiss-lock $6-14, and beaded evening clutches $8-20. Retail spans $28-160.
Can I add my logo to clutches?
Yes. Embossed frames, woven labels, and custom colors are standard; see custom logo clutch bags for MOQ and methods.
What is the most common clutch defect?
A misaligned or loose frame closure and insecure beading. Always test the closure over 50 cycles and pull-check beading on samples.
Do clutch manufacturers offer detachable straps?
Most do. A detachable chain strap turns a clutch into a shoulder bag and is a strong retail upsell with minimal cost.
