Custom Bag Packaging Wholesale: Dust Bags, Boxes & Branded Unboxing
Published: 2026-09-02 | 10 min read
Packaging is the first thing a customer touches - and for a handbag brand it is a large part of the perceived value. Custom dust bags, rigid boxes, tissue, and hangtags turn a $30 bag into a $30-plus experience and protect the product in transit. For importers, packaging is also a margin lever: branded packaging sourced alongside the bags consolidates freight and simplifies the supply chain. This guide covers dust bags, boxes, tags, MOQ, pricing, and sourcing custom bag packaging from China.
The Packaging Stack
A complete unboxing usually layers four pieces: an inner dust bag, a rigid or folding box, tissue or insert, and a hangtag or care card. Our handbag packaging options guide breaks down each layer and its cost.
Dust Bags
- Material. Non-woven, cotton, satin, or rPET - rPET matches an eco line.
- Print. Screen-print or woven label with your logo.
- Use. Protects the bag in the box and doubles as a storage pouch for the end customer.
Boxes
- Rigid (set-up) box. Premium feel, higher freight; best for gift and luxury tiers.
- Folding carton. Flat-packed, cheaper to ship; good for everyday brands.
- Magnetic closure. The 'premium' signal customers recognize.
MOQ and Pricing
| Item | MOQ | FOB Cost (China) |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton dust bag | 500 pcs | $0.40-1.20 |
| Folding carton | 1,000 pcs | $0.30-0.90 |

Quality Control Points
- Logo alignment. Print centered and straight on every unit.
- Box crush. Drop-test a filled box from 1m; corners must hold.
- Dust bag stitch. No loose threads; drawstring glides smoothly.
- Material claim. If you say rPET or cotton, keep the cert.
Your First Order
- Decide the stack (dust bag + box + tag is the standard).
- Send your logo and PMS colors; request a physical proof.
- Order 500-1,000 units timed with your bag production.
- Consolidate with the bag shipment to cut freight.

Dust bags usually start around 500 pieces; folding cartons around 1,000; rigid magnetic boxes around 500. Pricing drops sharply at higher volumes.
How much does custom packaging cost?
Cotton dust bags run $0.40-1.20, folding cartons $0.30-0.90, and rigid magnetic boxes $1.50-4.00 FOB. The uplift is small versus the perceived-value gain.

Buyer's decision brief: Custom bag packaging wholesale
For Custom bag packaging wholesale, the decision point is how much of the design work you have already done. If you have a tech pack, go OEM and own the pattern. If you have only a mood board or a competitor reference, ODM is faster and cheaper — you skip pattern development entirely and get to sampling in days rather than weeks. Most growing brands run a hybrid: ODM for the seasonal core range, OEM for the one hero product that defines the brand.
OEM, ODM and private label are frequently used interchangeably, and the confusion costs buyers money. OEM means you supply the tech pack and the factory builds to your specification. ODM means you pick an existing factory pattern and adapt colour, material, hardware and branding. Private label is a commercial arrangement layered on top of either one — the product carries your brand and the factory agrees not to sell it to anyone else in your territory. Knowing which of the three you actually need determines both your cost and your timeline.

Mistakes buyers make with Custom bag packaging wholesale
- Asking for OEM pricing while handing over only a Pinterest image.
- Assuming ODM styles are exclusive to you — they are not, unless exclusivity is written into the contract.
- Not getting tooling ownership in writing; you may have to pay twice to move factories later.
- Skipping the NDA before sharing an unreleased seasonal design.
