Pleated Bags Wholesale: Sourcing the Textured Feminine Silhouette from China
Published: 2026-08-26 | 10 min read
The pleated bag - a body built from pressed, fan-like folds - is the feminine-texture trend that runs alongside the minimalist crescent and the bold puffer. Pleats add visual richness without prints or hardware, which is why they suit both daytime satin looks and evening wear. For importers pleating is a manufacturing differentiator: good heat-set pleats hold for the life of the bag, while cheap pressed folds relax after one season. This guide covers materials, MOQ, pricing, QC, and sourcing for pleated bags from China.
Why Pleated Bags Earn a Wall Slot
Pleats read as 'designed', so they justify a higher retail price than a flat panel of the same material. They pair with the ruched bag trend for a coordinated textured wall and extend the satchel and clutch categories you likely carry. Pleated styles also cross over into evening wear, where the fold catches light.
Materials and Construction
- Heat-set pleats. Real pleats are heat-pressed into thermoplastic or bonded fabric so they hold shape. Ask whether pleats are heat-set or merely pressed - pressed folds relax.
- Satin and taffeta. The classic evening pleat; light play is the selling point.
- Vegan leather. Soft matte PU can be micro-pleated for a subtle look; tiers in vegan leather bags wholesale.
- Hardware. A slim top handle or chain complements the texture; keep hardware minimal so the fold stays the hero.
MOQ and Pricing
| Material | FOB Cost (China) | Retail Range |
|---|---|---|
| Satin pleated | $4-8 | $25-60 |
| Vegan leather micro-pleat | $6-12 | $38-95 |
| Taffeta evening pleat | $5-10 | $30-75 |
MOQ runs 100-300 pieces per style; custom pleat direction or density needs a new tooling pass, so confirm with the factory. See MOQ explained and custom logo bags for branding.
Quality Control Points
- Pleat retention. Flex the bag 50 times and confirm folds return; relaxed pleats are a reject.
- Fold symmetry. Pleats must be even width and depth across the body.
- Seam at pleat crown. Stitching at the fold top should be clean with no puckering.
- Lining. A stable lining keeps pleats from collapsing inward.
Inspect at AQL 2.5 and keep sealed samples per our factory QC process.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MOQ for wholesale pleated bags?
Pleated bags usually run 100-300 pieces per style because the pleat pattern and tooling are set per design; custom pleat direction needs a new tooling pass.
How much do pleated bags cost wholesale?
Satin pleated bags run $4-8 FOB, vegan-leather micro-pleat $6-12, and taffeta evening pleat $5-10. Retail prices span $25-95.
Do pleats stay or relax over time?
Heat-set pleats in thermoplastic or bonded fabric hold for the life of the bag; merely pressed folds relax after a season. Always flex-test samples before bulk.
Can I brand pleated bags?
Yes - woven labels and embossed hardware work; see custom logo bags for MOQ and methods.
What is the biggest quality risk?
Pleats that relax or become uneven after flexing. Inspect for fold symmetry and run a 50-flex retention test on samples.
